Native American Literature

EQ: For the indians it seem like that had a change to achieve the american dream but the white man came and took it over for them selves. It seems that the indians were living the american dream untill there white man came.

Indian Shoes
by: Wazi Nagi
These shoes are old and worn
These shoes are old and torn,
These shoes have seen many miles
While tears haunted Indian styles.
These shoes have seen the years
These shoes know the Trail of Tears,
As many wore away
These shoes realized the need to stay.
These shoes are old and pitiful.
Their roads were cruel and scornful
These shoes have walked in pain
They endured life with nothing to gain.
These shoes are Indian shoes
And as the end of life nears
These shoes will fade away
They walked the Trail of Tears one day.

DIARY

Dear Diary,

03/18/08

Today was sad day, we learn that hte white men that have came into our community is moving us to the west. We been through too much, now these people want to take over everything that we have. How could they just come here and take over, its not fair. Im so angry, i cant believe that they think that they can come up and mess up our tradations and mess up the way we work things.

REFLECTION

This poem makes me sad, because it shows how the indians have been through alot and for the white man to come in there setting and kick them out is sad. This poem talks about the pain the indians have been through. It also shows they felt. They used shoes to show how the audience how it feels to walk in there shoes . Reading this poem makes you see how they felt where they were invaded by the white man.

As a student I can see that you were able to read the poem and change your character in order to relate what was happening in the earlier stages of life. The poem was a great choice and goes along with the vibe that your diary entry which protrays a teenager.

First of all I love your poem, and I think you did a great job picking it! Due to this, it really helped me connected to the Native Americans, and have a better understanding of what they went through. From your reflection and diary on “Indian Shoes” I believe that you sympathize for the Indians, and relating to their culture. I love how you showed your emotions in your reflection, but you should have focused more on how your feelings connected to the Indians emotions. In addition, you should check over your grammar and make sure you have complete sentences. Over all, your American Literature project expressed you as a student and conductively portrayed an Indians life.
